Social Awareness Society for Youths (SASY) is a non-profit, nongovernmental human rights organization is known for its accurate fact-finding mission, impartial reporting, effective advocacy through media, and targeted advocacythrough trained human rights defenders, local human rights groups, professionals and experts. SASY is proactively engaging in protecting and promoting the Rights of Dalits and Adivasis through national and international human rights standards and mechanisms in the 4 districts namely Cuddalore, Villupuram, Erode and Thirupoor in the state of Tamil Nadu. Dalit Human Rights monitoring, legal interventions, Campaigns, lobbying and advocacy, Publications, People’s Tribunals, Disaster Responses, Child Rights Initiatives, Economic empowerment of poor women are the major thrust area.
SASY was founded by a group of Dalit activists in the year 1983 and it is registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 27 of 1975.
SASY offers capacity building trainings to the human rights defenders, civil society, professionals, people’s movements and other like-minded groups on Dalit Human Rights Monitoring, Documentations, Human Rights Research, Legal Interventions, Campaigning, Lobbying /Advocacy and Networking/Alliance building. SASY is serving as supportive structure for publications and mentoring grass roots initiatives. SASY has effectively addressed 693 incidents of caste atrocities, human rights violations & injustices occurred against Dalits since 2007.
